‘Bharatpol’ Portal Launched to Track and Repatriate Fugitive Criminals

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Bharatpol portal on Monday, aimed at simplifying the process of tracking and bringing back criminals who have fled abroad. The portal is designed to strengthen law enforcement efforts by facilitating better coordination between agencies in apprehending fugitives.
During the launch event, Home Minister Shah emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that criminals cannot evade justice by escaping the country. He stated that Bharatpol would serve as a crucial tool for law enforcement agencies to locate and expedite the extradition of fugitive offenders.
The portal will provide real-time access to police departments across the country, enabling them to instantly flag individuals wanted for serious crimes. Additionally, it will integrate data on Red Notices issued by Interpol, making it easier for authorities to track international fugitives.
Shah further explained that the Bharatpol portal would act as a centralized database, allowing any police station or law enforcement unit to access information about absconding criminals. This feature is expected to significantly enhance India's ability to locate and apprehend offenders hiding abroad.

Use of Technology and Strategic Approach
Highlighting the government’s vision for the future, Shah stated that India aims to become a global power by 2047, and maintaining law and order is a crucial part of that journey. He stressed that Bharatpol is just one of many initiatives being implemented to modernize the country’s law enforcement mechanisms.
Apart from tracking fugitives, the portal will also streamline the process of issuing and monitoring Red Corner Notices. This means that Indian authorities can track international criminals more efficiently, preventing them from exploiting legal loopholes to evade arrest.
Shah urged police officers to proactively utilize the portal and leverage international cooperation to bring fugitives back to India. He also emphasized the need for inter-agency collaboration to ensure that criminals do not escape the reach of justice.
With Bharatpol, India is taking a firm step towards creating a more secure and accountable legal system, making it increasingly difficult for offenders to escape the consequences of their crimes.
