Canada Will Not Be Part of America: Carney

Canada’s ruling Liberal Party has elected Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada, as its new leader. With this decision, Carney is set to become the next Prime Minister of Canada at a time when the country is facing economic challenges stemming from U.S. trade policies and tariff disputes under President Donald Trump.
Carney secured a landslide victory with 85.9% of the votes. Having previously held key positions at the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada, he brings extensive financial expertise to the role.

A Strong Stance Against U.S. Policies
Carney, 59 years old, will take over from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who resigned in January. While serving as interim leader until the official selection of a new Prime Minister, Carney has already adopted a tough stance against the U.S. administration.
In his first speech after being elected leader, Carney openly criticized President Trump’s trade policies, stating:
"America wants our resources, our water, our land, and our country. If they succeed, they will destroy our way of life. Canada is not America, and it never will be."

Trade Disputes and Tariff Battles
Carney also addressed the ongoing tariff war initiated by the Trump administration, asserting that:
"Canada will continue to impose retaliatory tariffs for as long as the U.S. maintains its trade barriers against us."
His remarks signal a more assertive approach toward U.S.-Canada relations, particularly in trade negotiations. With Canada’s economy deeply intertwined with its southern neighbor, Carney’s leadership will be crucial in shaping the country’s future economic policies and global trade strategies.
