Foreign Minister Says Trump is a Nationalist Leader
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed confidence in the stability of India-U.S. relations, emphasizing that bilateral ties remain strong. He also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi shares a good personal rapport with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Jaishankar described Trump as a nationalist leader and expressed optimism that his return to power could lead to several policy changes. He recalled his recent visit to the U.S. and attending Trump’s swearing-in ceremony as a significant experience.
Speaking to students at Hansraj College, Delhi, on the topic ‘War, Peace, and a Developed India’, Jaishankar highlighted that India-U.S. ties had always been strong and were expected to strengthen further. When asked whether he viewed Trump as a friend of India or a potential risk to its interests, Jaishankar responded:
"I returned as a guest, and my interactions were positive. He was respectful, and I would seriously describe him as a nationalist leader."

U.S. Congress to Review India Policy
The U.S. Congress Foreign Affairs Committee is set to review America’s foreign policy towards India, with a particular focus on expanding bilateral cooperation in the defense sector.
According to priority listings in the committee's agenda, India has been given special importance, ranking 11th among the top foreign policy concerns for the U.S. This underscores India's growing significance in Washington’s strategic framework.
