Signs of Growing Warmth in India-China Relations Amid Diplomatic Initiatives

 

In an effort to ease longstanding tensions between India and China, signs of diplomatic thaw are emerging ahead of the October 2024 visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to China. This visit, scheduled to mark 75 years of India-China diplomatic relations, is expected to usher in a new phase of bilateral engagement.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited Prime Minister Modi to a major international summit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. In response, Prime Minister Modi has extended greetings and emphasized that peaceful and stable relations between the two countries will benefit all of Asia and the wider world.

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang, addressing the diplomatic corps at the UN, expressed China’s readiness to work with India to maintain peace and stability in the region. He stated that areas of disagreement could be resolved through mutual trust and dialogue.

India’s Prime Minister emphasized shared efforts to maintain peace and enhance global development. He reiterated that peaceful relations between India and China are not only beneficial for both nations but for the entire international community.

China’s Ambassador Promises to Increase Imports from India

In a separate development, China’s Ambassador to India, Sun Weidong, announced that China is keen to increase imports from India and strengthen economic cooperation. During a media interaction in Delhi, he stated that China recognizes the importance of stable ties with India and is working towards a roadmap for resolving trade disputes.

He added that the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations presents a historic opportunity to foster trust and address bilateral issues through peaceful dialogue.
