Singapore Holds the Most Powerful Passport in the World; India’s Ranking Drops

The 2025 rankings of the world’s most powerful passports have been released, with Singapore securing the top position. A Singaporean passport allows visa-free travel to 195 countries, making it the most powerful globally.
The rankings, published by Henley & Partners, reveal that Japan has climbed to second place. Meanwhile, India’s passport ranking has dropped to 85th position, allowing visa-free access to only 57 countries. Last year, India was ranked 80th.
Top-Ranked Passports
The list ranks 16 countries in the top 10 positions, including Singapore, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea. These countries offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 190 countries.
Among Asian countries, China has improved its ranking, securing the 60th position, while India continues to lag.
How Passport Rankings Are Determined?
The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can access without requiring a visa. The rankings are updated annually using data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Countries Ahead of India in Rankings
In the 2025 Henley Index, India stands at 85th place, while China has climbed to 60th position. Some countries ranked higher than India include Indonesia (57th), Sri Lanka (94th), and Bangladesh (100th).
