Boatmen to Serve as Tour Guides in Mahakumbh 2025
Tourism Department Trains Street Vendors and Taxi Drivers
In preparation for the Mahakumbh 2025, the Tourism Department is providing training to boatmen, street vendors, and taxi drivers to act as tour guides for visiting pilgrims and tourists. This initiative aims to improve the experience of visitors during the religious event by enhancing the hospitality provided by the local population.
Under this initiative, over 45 designated officers from various government departments will collaborate to ensure that these local service providers are well-prepared. This comprehensive training program will equip them with skills in guiding tourists, delivering information, and managing their services effectively.
The training includes seven phases, in which approximately 300 boatmen will be taught essential skills for guiding tourists along the rivers and ghats of Prayagraj. Additionally, 420 auto-rickshaw drivers and 1200 street vendors and taxi drivers are being trained to help them interact positively with tourists and provide valuable assistance.
An important aspect of this training is educating participants on the cultural and historical significance of Mahakumbh and related sites. The training program is organized in coordination with the local administration and is scheduled to be completed before the Mahakumbh event begins.
This initiative also includes dedicated facilities for tourists, such as a guide point at the PM Modi Corridor near Hanuman Mandir, which will operate throughout the event to assist and guide pilgrims and tourists alike.
In total, around 1200 street vendors, 600 taxi drivers, and 600 auto-rickshaw drivers are expected to complete the training and certification, enhancing their ability to serve the anticipated millions of visitors attending Mahakumbh 2025.
