E-Jagriti Transforms Consumer Dispute Resolution Into a Fully Digital Process
India’s consumer grievance redressal system is undergoing a major digital transformation with the introduction of E-Jagriti, an integrated online platform designed to make the entire consumer dispute resolution process more accessible, transparent and convenient.
The platform enables consumers to file complaints online from their homes, track the progress of their cases, participate in hearings through video conferencing and receive copies of orders digitally. By bringing multiple stages of the dispute resolution process onto a single platform, E-Jagriti effectively functions as a digital consumer court.
The initiative has significantly reduced the need for consumers to make repeated physical visits to consumer commissions for filing documents, attending hearings or obtaining case-related information.
Complete Complaint Process Available Online
E-Jagriti has changed the traditional method of approaching consumer commissions by allowing complainants to initiate and pursue their cases digitally.
Consumers can register complaints online and monitor every major development in their cases through the platform. Documents can also be uploaded electronically, while notices and other case-related communications can be generated and managed digitally.
The platform further enables parties to participate in hearings through video conferencing, making the consumer justice system more accessible to people who may be unable to appear physically before a commission.
Orders passed in consumer disputes can also be accessed remotely, allowing litigants to obtain copies without visiting the concerned commission.
More Than Two Lakh Consumers Reportedly Benefited
Since becoming operational from January 1, 2025, the platform has brought together the previously separate digital systems used by consumer commissions and converted them into a unified, end-to-end digital ecosystem.
More than two lakh consumers have reportedly received resolution of their grievances through the system, highlighting the growing use of technology in consumer dispute redressal.
The integrated platform covers several stages of proceedings, including complaint registration, uploading of documents, issuance of notices, hearings, case monitoring and delivery of final orders.
National Recognition for Digital Governance
The E-Jagriti initiative has also received national recognition for its contribution to digital governance.
The initiative of the Department of Consumer Affairs was awarded a Silver Award under the National Awards for e-Governance 2026. The recognition was presented during the 29th National Conference on e-Governance held in Jaipur and was received by Nidhi Khare, Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The award reflects the government’s broader effort to use digital technology to make public services more efficient and citizen-friendly.
AI-Based Features Added to the Platform
Several technology-driven facilities have been incorporated into E-Jagriti to simplify consumer litigation and reduce procedural difficulties.
These include OTP-based registration, multilingual interfaces, AI-assisted machine translation, chatbot support, text-to-speech facilities, online payments, SMS and email alerts, and dedicated accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
The incorporation of artificial intelligence-based services is intended to assist users who may face language or technical barriers while navigating consumer dispute proceedings.
Machine translation facilities can help users access information across different languages, while chatbots and digital assistance tools can guide consumers through different stages of the complaint process.
Separate Dashboards for Stakeholders
The platform provides dedicated digital dashboards for different stakeholders involved in consumer dispute resolution.
Consumers, advocates and officials of consumer commissions have access to separate interfaces tailored to their respective requirements. This allows each category of user to track relevant cases, documents, hearings and procedural developments more efficiently.
The unified digital architecture is expected to improve coordination between consumer commissions while reducing paperwork and administrative delays.
Consumer Justice Moves Towards Greater Accessibility
The expansion of E-Jagriti represents an important shift in the way consumer disputes are handled in India. Traditionally, complainants were often required to personally visit consumer commissions at different stages of proceedings, which could involve travel, paperwork and repeated follow-ups.
A fully digital system has the potential to reduce these difficulties significantly, particularly for consumers living far from commission offices or those facing mobility constraints.
By integrating complaint filing, documentation, hearings, case tracking and final orders into a single digital platform, E-Jagriti is emerging as an important component of India’s technology-driven consumer protection framework.
The initiative demonstrates how digital governance can be used not merely to simplify administrative procedures but also to improve access to justice. As adoption of the platform expands, its effectiveness will depend on user awareness, technological accessibility, data security and the continued reliability of the digital infrastructure supporting the consumer dispute resolution system.
