Nearly 37,000 Supreme Court Judgments Translated into Hindi

The initiative to translate Supreme Court judgments into Hindi and other regional languages has gained significant momentum. So far, around 37,000 judgments have been translated into Hindi. In addition to Hindi, judgments are being translated into Tamil, Bengali, Assamese, Bodhi, Dogri, and other regional languages with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

During a court hearing, Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud provided information about the ongoing translation process into Hindi and other regional languages. This took place on Thursday when the CJI (Chief Justice of India) Chandrachud shared this update during the proceedings.

Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra's bench was hearing a case when a lawyer referenced a previous judgment in Hindi. The Chief Justice requested the lawyer to provide the citation of the judgment in the English Supreme Court Report (SCR). The lawyer's effort to refer to Hindi judgments has now started showing positive results.

It is worth noting that in 2023, the Supreme Court had launched the E-SCR (Electronic Supreme Court Reports) project, which offers free access to judgments for lawyers, students, and the public.
