Fast-Track Immigration Services Launched at Five More Airports, Including Lucknow
The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, inaugurated the fast-track immigration facility under the Trusted Traveller Programme (TTP) through a video conference, extending the service to five additional airports — Lucknow, Tiruchirappalli, Trichy, Cochin, and Amritsar. This expansion follows its earlier implementation at major airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad.
The TTP aims to provide seamless immigration clearance to frequent travelers. Once registered, passengers can complete the immigration process in just 30 seconds, significantly reducing waiting times at airport counters. Shah emphasized that the new system will enhance passenger convenience and streamline immigration operations.
Key Features of the Programme
- Quick Clearance: Registered passengers can clear immigration within half a minute using automated biometric kiosks.
- Easy Registration: Applicants must register on the FTI-TTP portal by submitting their personal details and necessary documents. Once approved, their biometric data will be stored for future travel.
- Faster Boarding: On arrival, passengers simply scan their passports and biometrics at designated e-gates for instant verification and clearance.
Authorities explained that the programme is part of a broader effort to modernize airport operations, making air travel more efficient for Indian and foreign passengers alike. With over 3 lakh travelers already registered, the government aims to expand the facility to all major airports across the country in the near future.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve passenger experience, reduce congestion at immigration counters, and align India’s airport services with global best practices.
