Government Allocates ₹3,000 Crore for Cancer Treatment

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda announced that the treatment of cancer is a top priority for the central government and policymakers. An allocation of ₹3,000 crore has been made for this purpose. Given the high cost of treating this deadly disease, this amount has been accumulated over the past eight years.

Nadda stated that every year, after conducting tests, 14.5 lakh cancer patients are identified.

While inaugurating Linear Accelerator (LINAC) facilities for radiation oncology at the Cancer Institute in Maharashtra on Sunday, Nadda emphasized that the government has prioritized the fight against cancer. He added that there has been an increase in testing and screening facilities to detect cancer.

Key Developments:

  • The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health Wellness Centres) are conducting screenings for oral, breast, and cervical cancers at 1,75,000 locations.
  • Screening has been made mandatory for individuals above 30 years of age.
  • For oral cancer, 26.7 crore individuals were screened, out of which 1.63 lakh cases were detected.
  • For breast cancer, 14.6 crore individuals were screened, resulting in the detection of 57,179 cases.

Minister Nadda reiterated that treatment of cancer must be a national priority for all policymakers.
