Railway Passengers Can Now Resolve Travel Issues Through WhatsApp Chat
Indian Railways has introduced a new facility enabling passengers to address problems faced during their journey via WhatsApp chat. The initiative aims to provide quick and direct assistance for a wide range of issues encountered at railway stations and onboard trains.
Passengers often face challenges such as lack of cleanliness, malfunctioning restrooms, electricity or water shortages, ticketing problems, disorderly staff behavior, and health-related concerns. To address these, the Railways has launched a dedicated helpline — 139 — which will now also be accessible through WhatsApp. This expansion will make it easier for passengers to register their complaints and receive timely help.
Under the new system, travelers can simply send a WhatsApp message to 7982139139 to report any issue. The service is designed to handle complaints related to station facilities, onboard services, ticketing, staff conduct, and safety. Upon receiving a message, the concerned department will be alerted, and necessary action will be initiated promptly.
In addition, Indian Railways plans to link this service with its social media platforms to further enhance response times and reach. This will ensure that passengers get faster resolutions, especially in emergencies.
To use the service, passengers need to send a greeting such as “Hello” or “Namaste” to the designated number, following which they will be guided through the process of lodging their complaint. The WhatsApp system is integrated to forward each complaint to the appropriate railway department for swift redressal.
Railway officials believe that this initiative will significantly improve the travel experience by making the complaint process more accessible, transparent, and efficient.
