Supreme Court Acknowledges Significance of Workplace Sexual Harassment Case

The Supreme Court has emphasized the importance of a petition related to job security for members of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs), which handle workplace sexual harassment cases.
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh noted that despite issuing notices to the Central Government, no response has been submitted yet. The court directed the Solicitor General to take immediate action, warning that if there is no representation in the next hearing, the court may appoint an amicus curiae to assist in the matter.

Petitioners Demand Job Security for ICC Members
•    The petition was filed by Janki Choudhary, a former ICC member, and Aula Tellis, a former journalist.
•    The petition highlights concerns about job security and protection against arbitrary dismissal for ICC members under the PoSH Act, 2013 (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal of Sexual Harassment at Workplace).
•    The plea seeks clear workplace security measures to ensure free and fair investigations into sexual harassment complaints.

Supreme Court's Action
The apex court had agreed on December 6 to examine the matter and had issued notices to the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The case is now scheduled for a detailed hearing next week.
The ruling is expected to have a significant impact on workplace safety policies, ensuring accountability and protection for ICC members handling sexual harassment cases in private and public offices across India.
