Indian passports are gaining global recognition, with 124 countries simplifying visa procedures for Indian travellers. This includes facilities like visa-free access, visa-on-arrival, and hassle-free e-visas.
Benefits of the New System:
● There is no need to visit visa centres in many countries.
● Visa-on-arrival simplifies entry procedures.
● Reduced visa fees save money for travellers.
● Easier travel for tourism and family visits.
Key Developments:
According to official data, the number of countries offering simplified visa access to Indian travellers has doubled over the past decade. From just 58 countries in 2013-14, it has increased to 124 nations, offering facilities like e-visas, visa-on-arrival, and visa-free travel.
Major destinations include Thailand, Kazakhstan, Bhutan, Indonesia, Mauritius, and Japan. Notably, 26 countries offer visa-free travel, while 40 others provide visa-on-arrival options. This list includes popular regions like the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Maldives, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Caribbean islands.
Challenges for Work Visa Applicants:
While tourist visa applications are simplified, work visa processes remain stringent. A recent UN report highlights that 99% of work visa applications require strict scrutiny, often including additional verification steps like health certifications and hotel stay confirmations.
This growing list of travel-friendly countries highlights the increasing global acceptance of Indian travellers and strengthens India’s soft power globally.
