U.S. to Sell Submarine-Hunting Equipment to India for $528 Million
Washington: The United States has decided to sell high-end anti-submarine warfare (ASW) equipment to India for $528 million to bolster India's capabilities in submarine detection and tracking. This sale includes the advanced High-Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare Sensors (HAASW), which are expected to enhance India's naval defence operations against potential underwater threats.
The HAASW sensors are state-of-the-art systems designed to detect submarines from aircraft, providing real-time data on enemy movements beneath the sea surface. These sensors can detect faint signals from distant submarines, thereby offering a strategic advantage in anti-submarine warfare.
The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) of the U.S. notified Congress of the potential sale earlier this week, marking a significant step in defence cooperation between the two nations. The sale is seen as part of broader efforts by the U.S. to support India's military modernization and strengthen its maritime security amid rising regional challenges.
