Raj Kapoor, born on December 14, 1924, is celebrated as one of Indian cinema’s greatest pioneers. Known as the "Showman of Indian Cinema," his illustrious career spanned decades, starting with his 1947 debut Neel Kamal. His works, such as Barsaat, Sangam, Mera Naam Joker, and others, became milestones that continue to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike.
PM Modi acknowledged the enduring relevance of Raj Kapoor’s work, stating, “His films were more than entertainment; they were cultural phenomena that spoke of hope, resilience, and humanity. Raj Kapoor’s legacy is a cornerstone of Indian cinema’s identity.”

During the interaction, PM Modi shared a personal anecdote about watching Raj Kapoor’s 1958 classic Phir Subah Hogi. He reflected on how the film’s themes of hope and justice deeply resonated with him as a young viewer. “It was a film that defined a generation. Watching it during my youth left a lasting impact on me, as it beautifully portrayed the struggles and aspirations of society,” he said.
