ICC Discussing with Member Countries Regarding Champions Trophy
Champions Trophy
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is in discussions with the participating countries regarding the organization of the Champions Trophy. Speculations are that if India refuses to travel to Pakistan, the entire tournament may be shifted outside. A source on Tuesday provided this information.
There was discussion that South Africa might host next year’s Champions Trophy if the current plans face obstacles. However, no such discussion took place in Tuesday’s ICC meeting. Meanwhile, the ICC has also postponed the tournament launch event, which was scheduled for November 11 in Lahore.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked the ICC for written confirmation regarding the security concerns associated with the tournament. PCB informed ICC that there are no security issues in their country. They cited the recent successful hosting of events involving England and New Zealand as evidence of Pakistan’s capability to host safely.
Last year, similar to the Asia Cup, this tournament was being considered for a "hybrid model" where some matches involving India would take place in Sri Lanka. The ICC has yet to respond to the PCB’s request for clarification on this matter.
