India to Build 200 More Airports in the Next 20 Years
Highlighting the growth potential in India’s aviation sector, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced on Thursday that India is expected to develop 200 more airports over the next 20 years. The Civil Aviation Minister noted that during this period, the demand for aircraft could reach up to 4,000.
Currently, Indian airlines operate around 800 aircraft, with orders placed for over 1,200 new planes. Over the past decade, the number of airports has doubled to 157, and in the next five years, 50 more airports are anticipated to be completed.
While inaugurating Airbus India’s South Asia headquarters in New Delhi, Scindia emphasized the importance of establishing airports as centres for employment generation, economic growth, and commercial activity.
