Karnataka CM Defends RCB Felicitation Amid Stampede Controversy

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has defended the government’s role in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) felicitation event held in front of Vidhana Soudha, following criticism after a tragic stampede occurred at a separate event near Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The stampede, which took place on June 4, led to the death of 11 people. Many questioned why the felicitation function continued despite the tragedy. Responding to this, CM Siddaramaiah said he only received news of the stampede at 5:45 PM, while the felicitation program had already started. He clarified that the government did not organize the stadium event, and the Vidhana Soudha program was conducted peacefully with proper security.

Police had earlier warned about possible security risks due to the short notice of the felicitation event. However, the Chief Minister maintained that it was the responsibility of the police to manage the crowd and security arrangements.

Opposition parties have blamed the government for mismanagement and demanded accountability. Meanwhile, a judicial inquiry has been launched, and FIRs have been registered against organizers and officials responsible for the stadium event.
