Delhi Implements GRAP-4 as Pollution Reaches Severe Levels

In response to the escalating pollution levels, Delhi authorities have enforced the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) - Stage 4 to mitigate the hazardous air quality. This decision comes as pollution in the capital has reached the severe category, significantly impacting public health.

Key Measures Under GRAP-4:

    1.    Ban on Non-Essential Vehicles: Entry of diesel-powered trucks, except for essential services and those meeting BS-VI standards, has been prohibited. This also applies to light motor vehicles (LMVs) powered by diesel that are not compliant with BS-VI standards.
    2.    Halt on Construction Activities: All construction and demolition activities have been banned, except for critical infrastructure projects such as roads, highways, metro services, and power transmission lines.
    3.    Reduction in Industrial Emissions: Strict measures have been implemented for industrial operations to control emissions. Non-compliant industries will face immediate shutdowns.
    4.    Promotion of Public Transport: Authorities are urging citizens to use public transportation to reduce vehicular pollution. Additional buses and metro services are being deployed for public convenience.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors, especially during early mornings and late evenings when pollution levels are at their peak. Authorities are also monitoring the situation closely and may impose further restrictions if air quality continues to worsen.

This step highlights the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat pollution and ensure public safety.
