Assistant Labour Commissioner and Staff Questioned for Over Two Hours in Bribery Case

In connection with a bribery case, a team from the Meerut Anti-Corruption Unit on Friday visited the Labour Department office to interrogate Assistant Labour Commissioner Vinod Kumar and other staff members. The questioning lasted for over two and a half hours, during which officials examined records and sought clarifications about the incident.

The case involves the arrest of Steno Amit Kumar and contractual computer operator Bhuvanesh Sharma from the office of the Assistant Labour Commissioner in the Sihani Gate police station area. Both were allegedly caught accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 on July 10 and were subsequently sent to jail. Following their arrest, departmental proceedings were initiated, resulting in Amit Kumar’s dismissal from service and Bhuvanesh Sharma’s contract being terminated.

The Anti-Corruption team, led by Inspector Durg Singh, along with three other members, questioned Vinod Kumar and other employees about the bribery incident. According to the investigation, the complainant had visited the Labour Department office on July 10 to collect a cheque related to a work injury claim. However, it is alleged that the staff demanded a bribe for processing the cheque, prompting the complainant to approach the Anti-Corruption Unit.

The team reviewed documents, transaction details, and official records to verify the allegations. Sources indicate that the questioning also focused on whether any other officials were involved in the bribery demand. The Anti-Corruption Unit is expected to file a detailed report on its findings in the coming days.
