EPFO Introduces Major Reforms: Seamless Profile Updates and Banking-Like Accounts

New Delhi: In a significant move to enhance convenience for Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) members, the government has announced two major reforms—simplified profile updates without document submission and the transformation of EPF accounts to function like bank accounts under the upcoming EPFO 3.0 initiative. These changes aim to reduce delays, streamline operations, and enhance digital accessibility for millions of employees across India.
No More Document Submission for Profile Updates
EPFO members can now modify their personal details without the need to submit additional documents, addressing a backlog of 3.9 lakh pending requests. This facility is available to members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked with Aadhaar, ensuring a faster and error-free update process.
Details That Can Be Updated:
• Name
• Date of Birth
• Gender
• Nationality
• Father’s/Mother’s Name
• Marital Status
• Life Status (Living/Deceased)
• Employment Status
Simplified Process for Updates:
1. Login to the EPFO portal
2. Enter updated details in the profile section.
3. Verification is done through Aadhaar-linked credentials.
4. Automatic approval without the need for document submission.
This move is expected to eliminate delays, reduce pending requests, and improve overall service efficiency.
