Indigenously Made Parachutes from Kanpur to Be Exported to 11 Countries
The Defence Ministry has approved the export of parachutes manufactured at the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE) in Kanpur to 11 countries, marking a significant milestone for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing sector.
The ADRDE, which operates under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), specializes in designing and producing high-quality parachute systems for the armed forces. The export list includes countries such as Australia, Germany, Egypt, Israel, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam.
Manufactured in collaboration with Lohia Aerospace Systems, a Kanpur-based defence production company, these parachutes meet stringent international safety and performance standards. The consignment will include brake parachutes for fighter aircraft, troop parachutes, and special-purpose parachutes designed for high-altitude and high-speed operations.
Officials stated that these parachutes are capable of deployment at speeds up to 220 knots and can operate effectively in various climatic conditions, making them competitive in the global defence market. The move is expected to boost India’s defence exports and reinforce its position as a reliable supplier of advanced military equipment.
The export clearance comes in line with the government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, which aim to enhance indigenous defence production capabilities and reduce dependence on imports. Defence industry experts have hailed the development as a step forward in expanding India’s presence in the global aerospace and defence sector.
