iPhone Production in India Rises 53% in First Half of 2025

According to market research firm Counterpoint, iPhone production in India surged by 53% year-on-year during the first half of calendar year 2025, reaching 239 million units between January and June. This marks the strongest growth for Apple since it began assembling smartphones in the country in 2017.

Industry experts attribute the sharp rise to Apple’s strategic move to shift more manufacturing from China to India amid high tariffs and trade tensions between China and major global markets. Reports indicate that alongside production, exports also recorded significant growth, with India now accounting for a larger share of Apple’s global output.

In the January–June period, exports rose by over 53%, with contract manufacturer Foxconn producing more than half of the iPhones shipped abroad. The data also reveals that 78% of the total iPhones manufactured in India during this period were exported.

Analysts note that India’s improved manufacturing capabilities and favorable government policies have encouraged Apple’s expansion in the country. In contrast, iPhone production in China experienced a noticeable decline, as geopolitical challenges and supply chain risks prompted Apple to diversify its manufacturing base.

The shift is seen as a milestone for India’s electronics manufacturing sector, with potential to further strengthen the country’s position as a global hub for smartphone production.
