Proposal for Single-Window Clearance for Foreign Investors
SEBI has proposed a Single-Window Clearance System for low-risk Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) investing in Indian equity markets. The aim is to simplify the approval process and position India as a more attractive investment destination for reliable foreign investors.
This system has been named Trusted Foreign Investor – Fast Automatic Access (Trust-FPI).
Who Falls Under the Low-Risk Category?
The low-risk investor category includes:
- Government-owned funds,
- Central banks,
- Sovereign wealth funds,
- Multilateral institutions,
- Regulated mutual funds,
- Insurance companies, and
- Pension funds.
As of June 30, 2024, there were 11,913 registered FPIs in India, holding assets worth ₹80.83 lakh crore. More than 70% of these belonged to the low-risk Trust-FPI category.
