TCS Employees Named in Sexual Harassment and Religious Conversion Case Suspended

Tata Consultancy Services has suspended employees accused in a case involving alleged sexual harassment and attempted religious conversion at its Nashik office. The company has stated that all accused employees have been placed under immediate suspension as a primary disciplinary measure and that the company is cooperating fully with the police investigation.

According to a statement issued by a TCS spokesperson, the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any form of harassment, pressure or coercion within the workplace. The spokesperson said that the matter has also been brought to the attention of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and that the company is extending all required support to law enforcement agencies.

Police have reportedly registered a case against eight individuals and initiated an investigation. TCS has also started an internal inquiry into the allegations. Employees whose names have surfaced during the investigation have been suspended until the completion of the inquiry process. The company has clarified that any further disciplinary or legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.

Company officials said that TCS has an Internal Complaints Committee in place at its Nashik unit to prevent sexual harassment at the workplace. However, according to the company, the committee had not received any complaint related to the incident before the police case came to light.

The controversy is linked to allegations made by women employees who were earlier associated with a company where one of the accused, identified as Usman Usmani, had previously worked. According to the report, after the Nashik office of TCS opened in 2017, the accused allegedly began working there and was later joined by several employees from his earlier workplace.

The women employees alleged that they were subjected to sexual harassment and attempts at religious conversion. They reportedly stated that they had approached the Internal Complaints Committee, but claimed that no action was taken. One complainant alleged that she was told such incidents occur in every company and was advised to focus on work instead of raising the matter further.

The case gained wider attention after the accused Usman Usmani was arrested from Hyderabad by the police. He remains in police custody as the investigation continues.

The matter has raised serious concerns regarding workplace safety, the functioning of internal complaints mechanisms and the responsibility of companies to ensure a secure and respectful environment for all employees. The final outcome will depend on the findings of the police investigation and the company’s internal inquiry.
