UP Leads in Disposal of Sexual Harassment Cases

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner among major states in swiftly disposing of cases related to crimes against women, including sexual harassment, according to the latest report by the Integration Tracking System for Sexual Offences (ITSUSO).

Excluding Union Territories, the report reveals that UP achieved a disposal rate of 98.60% in these cases. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed that strict legal action be taken promptly against the accused to ensure justice.

According to Padma Chauhan, Chairperson of the Women and Child Safety Organization, between April 21, 2018, and June 2025, the state disposed of 1,22,130 FIRs related to sexual crimes against women and minors.

Among Union Territories, Dadra and Nagar Haveli recorded the highest disposal rate at 98.80%. Among large states, Uttar Pradesh leads, followed by Delhi.

Haryana ranked second with a disposal rate of 97.60%, while Delhi stood third with 97.20%. Notably, in 2018, Uttar Pradesh was in the seventh position, with a disposal rate of just 95%.

The report also highlighted improvements in the “charge sheet filing rate” (the percentage of cases in which chargesheets were filed within 60 days). Goa topped this metric with 88.50%, followed by Dadra and Nagar Haveli (88.30%). Uttar Pradesh stood third with 80.60%.

Compared to previous years, Uttar Pradesh has seen substantial progress. In the same metric, Uttarakhand ranked second (80%) and Madhya Pradesh third (77%).
