Zimbabwe to Cull 200 Elephants to Alleviate Hunger

Harare – Several African countries are facing severe food shortages due to droughts. This has forced governments to make difficult decisions. Zimbabwe has issued an order to kill 200 elephants to provide food for its people. Similarly, in Namibia, a plan is underway to kill 700 animals, including 83 elephants.

Tinashe Farawo, spokesperson for Zimbabwe's National Park, stated that permits will be issued to allow communities in need to hunt elephants. The hunting will take place in areas where elephant populations have increased. The Hwange National Park has been selected for this, where conflicts between humans and wildlife over food and water are escalating.
