Alarming: Complaints of Fake Goods in Online Shopping Rise by 1.5 Times
The number of complaints related to counterfeit goods sold through online shopping platforms has risen sharply, showing an increase of one-and-a-half times in 2025 compared to previous years.
According to the Department of Consumer Affairs, thousands of consumers have reported being cheated while purchasing branded items online. Records show that between 2023 and 2025, the total number of complaints about fake products rose from 7,221 in 2023 to 12,004 in 2025.
A majority of these complaints involve clothing, footwear, and electronic gadgets, which are often found to be imitations of well-known brands. Many consumers have expressed frustration over receiving poor-quality items despite paying full price.
Officials state that special campaigns are being launched to curb such practices. Online companies have also been instructed to improve their internal monitoring systems, ensuring that sellers on their platforms are thoroughly verified.
Authorities have warned that failure to control the sale of counterfeit products could lead to strict legal action. Consumer rights groups are urging people to remain cautious while shopping online, advising them to buy only from verified sellers and to immediately report suspicious items.
