Children in China Sleep with Pumpkins to Beat the Heat

In an unusual yet heartwarming trend, children in China have been spotted sleeping at night while hugging pumpkins to keep cool during the summer heat. This unique practice, now going viral on social media, has gained attention across the country.

The method, believed to help reduce body heat, involves children sleeping while in contact with a pumpkin, which stays cool for a longer duration. Unlike air conditioners that circulate warm air after being switched off, pumpkins naturally retain a cooler temperature.

Reports suggest that the practice is particularly popular among families looking for cost-effective ways to stay cool, especially in areas where running air conditioning all night can be expensive. According to Chinese media, a 14-kilogram pumpkin was purchased by a family for this purpose, with the parent stating that their child enjoys hugging it while sleeping.

One parent from Guizhou shared that the family decided to use this method as they could not afford to keep their air conditioner running all night. The pumpkin, cooled in advance, helps keep the child comfortable in bed.

Social media platforms are filled with pictures and videos of children peacefully sleeping with pumpkins, drawing both curiosity and admiration. Experts note that while unconventional, this method can indeed provide temporary relief in hot climates.
