High Court Seeks Response on Petition to Include Training Period in Salary Increment and Other Benefits
The Allahabad High Court has sought a response from the Uttar Pradesh government regarding a petition filed by 117 candidates selected for the positions of Fire Station Second Officer. The petitioners have requested that their training period be included in the calculation for salary increments and other benefits.
The court has issued notices to the Principal Secretary (Home), DGP, and DG Fire Services, directing them to respond to the plea. The Registrar (Recruitment) has been asked to ensure that these officials are informed of the court’s directive within 48 hours and that necessary actions are taken promptly.
According to the petitioners, they were appointed under the 2016 recruitment process for various roles, including civil police, platoon commanders, and fire station second officers. The initial selection list was issued in February 2019, but subsequent changes and cancellations by the recruitment board delayed their appointment. The candidates underwent training between June and July 2019 without any increment in their salary or recognition of the training period in their service.
The petition highlights that the newly selected candidates were sent back from the training centre in June-July 2020 due to procedural lapses. Despite the government’s approval of the selection list in September 2019, the board failed to implement it correctly, leading to the filing of the petition.
The court has given the state government a week to respond and has scheduled the next hearing for October 28. The petitioners argue that their training period should be counted as part of their service, thereby entitling them to salary increments and other service-related benefits from the date of their initial selection.
