Parathas, Chole Bhature, and Misal Pav Among the World’s 100 Tastiest Breakfasts

 

Indian favourites like parathas, misal pav, chole bhature, and shrikhand have earned a place on the list of the world’s 100 best breakfasts, released by the popular food guide Taste Atlas. The list celebrates the most loved morning dishes globally, with four Indian dishes securing top ranks.

 

According to the rankings, Turkey’s “kahvalti” holds first place, followed by Colombia’s “calentado,” while Egypt’s “feteer meshaltet” ranks third. Dishes from Pakistan and China have also been included in the compilation.

 

Highlights of India’s Rankings:

  • Misal Pav (18th Position):
    Maharashtra’s spicy misal pav is a beloved breakfast dish, combining sprouted lentils cooked with spicy gravy, farsan, onions, lemon, and pav. Its complex flavours and unique preparation have earned it worldwide popularity.
  • Paratha (23rd Position):
    India’s staple flatbread, usually stuffed with potatoes, cauliflower, or paneer and served with pickles and curd, has gained international acclaim as a wholesome and delicious breakfast.
  • Chole Bhature (32nd Position):
    The ever-popular chole bhature, known for its combination of fluffy bhature and spicy chickpeas, is regarded as one of the most flavourful breakfasts in the world.
  • Shrikhand (60th Position):
    This classic Maharashtrian dessert made from strained yogurt flavoured with saffron, cardamom, and dry fruits is celebrated for its rich taste and smooth texture.

Taste Atlas rated each dish between 1 and 5 stars. User ratings were filtered to prevent biases, and the final rankings were determined by the average of verified votes.
