Theft of Over a Thousand Restaurant Chairs Uncovered in Spain
In an unusual case that has caught the attention of authorities and locals alike, Spanish police have dismantled a gang accused of stealing more than 1,100 chairs from restaurants and bars across the country. The thefts reportedly targeted outdoor seating areas, where the culprits would discreetly remove furniture during the night.
According to police reports, the gang consisted of six men and one woman who operated primarily in cities such as Madrid and Valencia. Over the course of just a few months, they stole chairs from 18 different restaurants and bars. The group later sold the stolen furniture in nearby regions, including Morocco and Romania, where such café furniture is in high demand.
Authorities estimate the total value of the stolen property at around $69,000 (approximately ₹60 lakh). The police described the operation as one of the most unusual theft rings uncovered in recent years, noting that instead of precious metals or electronics, this gang focused on an everyday item — restaurant chairs — turning them into a surprisingly profitable trade.
