Amar Preet Singh Appointed as New Chief of the Air Force

 

Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh took charge as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force on Monday. He has over 5,000 hours of flying experience. He succeeded Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, who retired after a career spanning three years.

Born on 27th October 1964, Amar Preet Singh was commissioned into the Indian Air Force’s Fighter Pilot Stream in December 1984. With a career spanning nearly 40 years, he has handled several significant responsibilities. Air Chief Marshal Singh is an experienced fighter pilot and has also been a test pilot.

During his career, he has commanded a frontline fighter squadron and led the MiG-29 squadron. He was also the Director of the National Flight Test Centre and has been involved in various operational and test flight roles. Prior to his appointment as the Air Chief, he was serving as the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff and later as the Chief of the Southwestern Air Command.

Career Achievements:

  • Served as the Commandant of the Air Force Academy.
  • Led the Southwestern Air Command and the Air Defence Command.
  • Held the post of Senior Air Staff Officer in Eastern Air Command.

Air Chief Marshal Singh is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service.

His predecessor, VR Chaudhari, congratulated him during the handing over ceremony held on Monday in New Delhi.
