Amit Shah Directs Full Implementation of New Criminal Laws by March 31

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed that all seven police commissionerates in Uttar Pradesh ensure 100% transition to the three new criminal laws by March 31, 2024. These laws include:
1. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023
2. Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023
3. Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023
Shah emphasized that Uttar Pradesh, being a highly populous state, should lead in their strict enforcement to set an example for the nation.
Key Directives from the Meeting
• Regular Review Meetings: The Chief Minister should review the implementation progress every 15 days, while the Chief Secretary and DGP should hold weekly meetings with relevant officials.
• Forensic Investigation Expansion: Each district must have at least one forensic mobile van for evidence collection. Cases should be categorized into three levels—serious, normal, and minor—to optimize forensic resources.
• Speedy Justice: The new criminal laws aim to be victim-centric rather than punishment-centric, ensuring swift justice for victims.
• Statewide Adaptation: Along with police commissionerates, the entire state should fully adopt the laws soon.
• Monitoring FIR Transfers: The frequency of FIR transfers to other states under the new laws must be tracked and reported regularly.
Shah held the review meeting in New Delhi with CM Yogi Adityanath, stressing that Uttar Pradesh must lead in effective law enforcement under the new legal framework.
