Amit Shah: Modi Government Sets New Benchmarks in Good Governance

Massive Drop in Naxalism, Improved Security in J&K and Northeast Showcased as Key Achievements of 11-Year Tenure

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday described the 11 years of the Modi government as the "golden era of governance" in India. Addressing a media briefing, Shah said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the nation has made record-breaking strides in internal security, development in the Northeast, and the eradication of Left Wing Extremism (LWE).

Citing official data, Shah asserted that the government’s policy-driven approach has led to a historic reduction in violence, civilian casualties, and terrorist activities across sensitive regions like Jammu & Kashmir and LWE-affected zones.

Key Achievements Presented

 Naxal-Affected Areas (LWE Belt)

Shah revealed that between 2004–2014, India recorded 16,463 incidents of violence in LWE areas. This dropped to 7,744 incidents between 2014–2024, marking a 53% decline.

  • Security Forces Killed: Reduced from 1,851 to 509 (73% decrease)
  • Civilian Deaths: Reduced from 4,766 to 1,495 (70% decrease)
  • In 2025 alone, 226 Naxals have been neutralized, including 27 top commanders and two with ₹25 lakh bounties.

Jammu & Kashmir: Return of Peace

Shah emphasized that terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir has drastically reduced due to decisive governance:

  • Terror Incidents: 7,217 (2004–2014) → 2,242 (2014–2024) → 69% drop
  • Total Deaths: Dropped by 68%
  • Civilians Killed: Down by 81%
  • Security Forces Losses: Reduced by 46%

These improvements, Shah said, are due to increased coordination, repeal of Article 370, and robust border infrastructure.

 Development in the Northeast

Post-2014, the Modi government invested significantly in peace and connectivity in Northeast India.

  • Incidents of Violence: Dropped from 11,327 (2004–2014) to 3,493 (2014–2025) – a 70% reduction
  • Security Personnel Deaths: Fell from 456 to 135
  • Civilian Deaths: Dropped from 2,651 to 397, an 85% decline

Quote from Amit Shah

“The Modi government has eliminated appeasement and brought in accountability. The country today is safer, stronger, and more united. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, peace and progress are becoming the new normal,” Shah said.

He added that over 400 districts are now linked to development through central welfare schemes, and that law and order reforms have made governance more responsive and transparent.
