Authorities Ordered to Measure and Clear Encroachments Around Pond in Ghaziabad

District authorities have directed officials to carry out a detailed survey and measurement of a local pond and its surrounding areas to remove illegal encroachments and restore the water body to its original state. The directive was issued by Chief Development Officer Abhinav Gopal during an inspection of a minor canal and pond located in the Duhai area.

Accompanied by officials from the Irrigation Department, Gopal reviewed the current condition of the pond and discussed necessary measures for its restoration. During the inspection, irrigation officials informed him that water was not reaching the minor canal, making cleaning operations challenging. To address this, the CDO instructed that the matter be referred to the Municipal Corporation to ensure proper cleaning and water flow.

Restoration and Beautification Plans Underway

Municipal engineers have prepared an action plan to clean and restore the pond, with the cleaning work expected to begin soon. Additionally, a proposal for the beautification of the pond will be submitted, aimed at transforming the area into a public-friendly space that contributes to environmental sustainability and groundwater recharge.

Officials also discussed the issue of illegal encroachments that have developed around the pond. Gopal directed the concerned departments to measure the land accurately and initiate a clearance drive to reclaim public property and ensure that the pond area is free from unauthorized constructions.

Multi-Department Coordination for Sustainable Development

The CDO emphasised the importance of coordinated action between the Irrigation Department, Municipal Corporation, and Revenue Department to achieve the project’s goals. He highlighted that clearing encroachments and restoring water bodies is not only essential for ecological balance but also for improving urban infrastructure and supporting future water management efforts.

Local authorities have assured that regular monitoring will be carried out to ensure that the pond remains encroachment-free and that maintenance activities continue even after the initial restoration. The project is part of a broader initiative aimed at revitalising water bodies across the district to support sustainable urban development.
