Chief Minister’s Office to Monitor Public Hearings Conducted by District Magistrates and SSPs
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to strengthen oversight of public grievance redressal mechanisms by introducing direct monitoring of public hearings conducted by district administrations. Under the new system, the Chief Minister’s Office will supervise and review the functioning of grievance hearings held by District Magistrates (DMs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across the state.
The decision follows concerns raised regarding delays and irregularities in the resolution of complaints submitted by citizens during public hearing programs such as Jan Sunwai and Janta Darshan. These platforms are designed to allow citizens to present grievances directly before administrative and police authorities. However, reports of delayed action in several cases prompted the government to introduce closer monitoring to ensure greater accountability.
According to official directives issued by the state administration, the Chief Minister’s Office will regularly review the progress of complaint resolution. The objective is to ensure that grievances submitted by the public are addressed promptly and effectively at the district level, preventing unnecessary delays and ensuring administrative responsiveness.
Under the revised system, district officials including District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police will participate in scheduled review meetings through video conferencing. These meetings will be conducted from their respective offices and will focus on assessing the progress made in resolving complaints received through the public grievance system.
Officials have been instructed to join the review sessions through designated video conferencing platforms. Participation through mobile phones or other remote locations has been discouraged in order to ensure formal and structured communication from official offices.
The Chief Minister’s Office will also monitor the Janta Darshan program through live reporting from districts. During review sessions, selected complainants may be contacted directly to verify the status of their grievances and assess the quality of grievance redressal provided by district authorities.
