Descendant of Maharana Pratap, Arvind Singh, Passes Away

Arvind Singh Mewar, a descendant of Maharana Pratap and a member of Udaipur’s former royal family, passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 80. He had been battling illness for a long time.
Arvind Singh Mewar was the younger brother of Mahendra Singh Mewar, who passed away on November 10, 2024. Following Arvind Singh’s demise, the City Palace has been closed to tourists. His final journey will commence at 11 AM.

Significant Role in Making Udaipur a Destination Wedding Hub
Arvind Singh was the son of Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar and Rajmata Sushila Kumari Mewar. During the 1980s and 1990s, he introduced the concept of destination weddings, which was initially mocked. However, today, Udaipur has become a leading hub for destination weddings, attracting elite visitors from around the world.

Arvind Singh Was the Executor of Royal Properties
Between 1963 and 1983, Maharana Bhagwat Singh leased several royal properties, which led to dissatisfaction among family members. Arvind Singh’s elder brother, Mahendra Singh, even filed a legal case regarding the matter. Bhagwat Singh defended himself in court, stating that the properties were part of the "Hotel Estate" (hospitality business).
On May 15, 1984, Bhagwat Singh appointed his younger son, Arvind Singh, as the executor of the family’s properties. An executor is responsible for managing and distributing assets after a person’s demise.

Closure of City Palace for Tourists
Following Arvind Singh’s passing, the City Palace has been temporarily closed to visitors. His contributions to tourism, heritage preservation, and destination weddings have left a lasting legacy in Udaipur.
