Digital Connectivity: The Lifeline of Modern India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the India Mobile Congress, highlighted how digital connectivity has become an inseparable part of everyday life in India. He emphasized that technology today is not a luxury but a necessity, seamlessly integrated into the nation’s social and economic framework.

Modi noted that in the last decade, India has witnessed an extraordinary digital transformation — from mobile manufacturing and internet penetration to the affordability of data. He pointed out that India now offers one gigabyte of data at a cost equivalent to a cup of tea, making it one of the most affordable data markets in the world.

India’s Technological Leap

The Prime Minister shared that mobile phone manufacturing in India has grown 28 times, and exports have surged by 127 times in recent years. This remarkable expansion has been made possible through policy support, infrastructure development, and a strong push for innovation under the Digital India initiative.

Highlighting the importance of this progress, he said that the rapid pace of digital connectivity has bridged rural and urban India, bringing government services, education, and healthcare closer to the people. “Digital connectivity is not just about communication—it is about empowerment and opportunity,” he added.

India’s Rising Role in Global Supply Chains

Modi stressed that India’s growing digital ecosystem is creating opportunities for the country to emerge as a vital part of global supply chains, especially in electronics manufacturing. He urged global investors to view India as a dependable technology and manufacturing hub, emphasizing the country’s potential to meet global demands through skill, scale, and speed.

A Global Hub for Manufacturing Partnerships

In his address, Modi invited the world’s major technology companies to collaborate with Indian manufacturers to develop cutting-edge products, semiconductors, and mobile technology solutions. He said India’s consistent reforms, stable policies, and young skilled workforce make it an ideal destination for long-term technology partnerships.

The Prime Minister also announced the establishment of data centers and cloud infrastructure hubs across India, which will further strengthen the nation’s digital backbone and support the growing demand for secure, high-speed data services.

Digital India: A Vision Realized

Since the launch of Digital India in 2014, the country has achieved several milestones — from expanding 4G and 5G networks to introducing indigenous manufacturing of smartphones and network components. With more than 45 Indian companies now active in this sector, the digital revolution is fueling job creation and economic growth nationwide.

As India positions itself as a global leader in technology and innovation, Modi’s message at the India Mobile Congress reinforced a central truth: Digital connectivity is not merely a tool—it is the foundation of a self-reliant and future-ready India.
