Expansion of Medical and IT Education Seats to Boost Employment

The Union Budget 2025-26 has announced a significant increase in seats for medical and IT education to strengthen India's healthcare and technology workforce. This initiative aligns with the government's vision of creating more employment opportunities and reducing student migration abroad.

Key Announcements for Medical and IT Education
1.    Medical Education Expansion:
o    10,000 new seats will be added in medical colleges.
o    In the last 10 years, 1.1 lakh medical seats have been introduced.
o    60 lakh to 1 crore annual fees in private medical colleges make affordability a major challenge.
2.    Boost for IT Education:
o    6,500+ new IT seats will be introduced.
o    A total of 70,000 IT seats have been added in the last 10 years.

3.    Government Investment in Education:
o    Total education budget for 2025-26: ₹78,572 crore (higher than previous years).
o    Higher education budget: ₹50,077 crore.
o    Efforts to increase medical seats in government institutions to make education affordable.

o    Due to limited seats and high costs, a large number of Indian students opt for medical education abroad.
o    48% of private medical seats belong to private institutions, making it difficult for middle-class students to afford quality education.
