Home Sales Fall 32% in Seven Major Indian Cities During First Half of 2025

Home sales in India’s seven largest cities declined sharply by 32% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Anarock Research.

Between January and June 2025, a total of 1,89,570 homes were sold across these cities. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) recorded the steepest decline, with sales dropping 34% to 62,890 units, compared to 84,465 units in the first half of 2024.

Despite the slowdown, the average price of homes in Mumbai remained stable at ₹1.60 crore, slightly higher than ₹1.56 crore during the same period last year.

The report also noted a rise in state government revenues from property registrations, which increased 14% year-on-year. Between January and June 2025, states collected ₹6,699 crore in registration fees, up from ₹5,874 crore a year ago.

In June alone, 11,211 transactions were registered, generating ₹1,004 crore in revenue for state governments.
