India and Maldives to Collaborate on Maritime Security


Maldivian Defense Minister Holds Bilateral Talks with Rajnath Singh
Maldivian Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Mohm met with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh during his visit to India for high-level bilateral discussions. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime security and economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Rajnath Singh emphasized that ensuring stability in the Indian Ocean region is India's top priority and reiterated that the Maldives holds a significant position in India's foreign policy.


Strategic Importance of the Visit
This visit is particularly crucial, as it comes nearly eight months after India withdrew its military personnel from the Maldives. Minister Mohm’s visit is viewed as an effort to rebuild strategic defense cooperation between the two nations.
As a trusted ally, India has played a key role in supporting Maldives' defense infrastructure, providing training for Maldivian security forces, and strengthening its security framework. New Delhi has assured continued assistance in modernizing Maldivian defense capabilities.


Strengthening Bilateral Defense Readiness
During the meeting, Singh reaffirmed India's commitment to enhancing Maldives' defense preparedness. The discussions aligned with India’s broader strategic approach to maintaining regional security and stability. Singh highlighted that India will ensure swift assistance to the Maldives whenever needed.
Both sides agreed to continue high-level engagements and boost cooperation in maritime security and counter-terrorism efforts. The Maldives defense minister described this visit as his first official diplomatic engagement with India, underscoring the importance of maintaining strong bilateral ties.
