India Reaches New Heights: World's Tallest Railway Arch Bridge Inaugurated in Kashmir
Marking a historic milestone in India’s infrastructure journey, the world’s tallest railway arch bridge—the Chenab Bridge—was officially inaugurated, connecting Kashmir to Kanyakumari via rail for the first time in independent India’s history.
The arch bridge, an engineering marvel spanning the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, stands taller than the Eiffel Tower and symbolizes India’s technological and developmental prowess. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the inaugural train, describing the bridge as a "symbol of New India's resolve and capability."
Key Highlights:
- World’s highest railway bridge at a height of 359 meters.
- Built using state-of-the-art engineering, with strong seismic and wind resistance.
- Connects the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, completing an all-weather, all-terrain railway access to the Kashmir Valley.
- Facilitates a continuous rail route from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, enhancing national integration and economic opportunity.
This mega infrastructure project was completed with contributions from top Indian engineers and international experts. It is expected to bring a major boost to tourism, local employment, and defence logistics in the region.
The Chenab Bridge not only sets a global record but also sends a powerful message of unity, innovation, and inclusive growth—connecting the extreme north to the southern tip of India through a single railway network.
