India Strengthens Maritime Security with Indigenous Warships

PM Modi Commissions Three Powerful Warships in Mumbai
India has taken a significant leap in maritime security with the commissioning of three powerful indigenous warships. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inducted INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and INS Vagsheer at the Mazagon Dockyard in Mumbai. These warships, designed and built in India, mark a milestone in India’s defense capabilities.

INS Surat: One of the Largest Destroyers in the World
INS Surat is part of the Project 15B destroyers and is one of the largest and most powerful warships globally. It features stealth technology, advanced weaponry, and enhanced survivability in naval combat.
Armed with Cutting-Edge Weapons:
•    BrahMos missiles for supersonic surface-to-surface attacks
•    Barak-8 air defense system to counter aerial threats
•    Indigenous torpedoes and anti-submarine weapons
•    Advanced radar and sonar systems for enhanced situational awareness
The warship's capabilities match those of leading naval forces like the U.S., Japan, and European nations.

INS Nilgiri: India’s Homegrown Stealth Frigate
INS Nilgiri is the first warship under Project 17A stealth frigate series. Designed by India’s Naval Design Bureau, it offers enhanced stealth, multi-role capability, and extended operational endurance.
With a displacement of 6,670 tons, it can conduct long-duration missions and is equipped with modern naval technology. Countries like the UK, Russia, France, and Japan have similar warships.
INS Vagsheer: India’s Scorpene-Class Submarine
INS Vagsheer is the sixth and final submarine of Project 75 Scorpene-class submarines. It is designed to strengthen India’s undersea warfare capabilities.

Key Features of INS Vagsheer:
•    Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system
•    Specially designed for stealth and high-speed underwater attacks
•    Armed with torpedoes, anti-ship missiles, and 30 advanced mines
•    Equipped with cutting-edge counter-detection systems for superior underwater combat
With the commissioning of these warships, India has significantly boosted its maritime defense and demonstrated its self-reliance in naval shipbuilding. These vessels will play a crucial role in protecting India's maritime interests in the Indian Ocean and beyond.
