India to Introduce Semiconductor Education at School Level

Government aims to build skilled workforce and position India as a global semiconductor hub

New Delhi, September 3, 2025 – In a landmark move, the government is preparing to introduce semiconductor education at the school level, with plans to integrate the subject into curricula alongside artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative is part of a broader vision to make India a global leader in the semiconductor industry.

A strategy report by the Ministry of Electronics and IT has recommended a roadmap for nurturing talent from the grassroots. It proposes that students should begin learning the basics of semiconductor design and chip technology in high school, followed by more specialized diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs.

Experts argue that introducing semiconductor studies early will help students build foundational knowledge and pursue careers in a sector critical to future technologies. The report emphasizes collaboration between schools, universities, and industry to create a holistic ecosystem. Institutions like IITs and AIIMS may also develop centralized modules to address technical challenges.

Additionally, AICTE-accredited institutions will be encouraged to launch specialized semiconductor courses, supported by partnerships with leading companies. The plan also includes establishing design labs and innovation centers to give students hands-on experience.

Officials said the government views this step as essential for strengthening India’s semiconductor mission, which is central to its ambition of becoming a global electronics manufacturing hub.
