Indian Experts Excited About America's New NSA Appointment
Donald Trump, newly elected President of the United States, will take office on January 20, 2025. However, he has already started forming his new team, with initial appointments creating excitement among Indian experts. The appointment of new National Security Advisor (NSA) Mike Waltz is considered significant.
Experts believe Trump is including trusted allies in his team, who have a good understanding of India, making it easier to establish synergy with them. Waltz, a former soldier and U.S. Congressman, was previously the head of the India Caucus in the U.S. Senate, where he worked on strategic defence cooperation with India.
The chief professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Prof. Sharat Singh, said the strengthening of defence relations between both countries would be a priority. This approach is expected to counter China and maintain strong relations with India.
Waltz is also likely to work on strengthening ties between India and the U.S. in technology and defence sectors, enhancing cooperation in these areas. His previous experience in the Senate India Caucus is expected to be advantageous in fostering a closer relationship with India.
