Indigenous System Developed for Accurate Drone Tracking

As drones become a part of daily life, they pose significant risks related to unauthorized surveillance, smuggling, and covert monitoring missions. To address these concerns, a comprehensive drone tracking system is being developed to ensure safety in areas like critical infrastructure, border security, and delivery logistics. With the help of indigenous technology, the Indian defence sector can now accurately track and monitor civilian and military drones.

A Hyderabad-based company, Truth Labs, has developed a homegrown radar system in collaboration with the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER). This technology will enable precise drone detection and monitoring in challenging environments, such as rugged terrains and border areas, and help reduce potential threats posed by unauthorized drones.

Key Features of the Radar System:

  1. Wide-Band SSA Technology: This radar can detect both large and small drones due to its advanced signal processing capabilities.
  2. Extended Range Detection: The radar can track drones up to 350 meters in altitude and at up to 20 kilometres.
  3. All-Weather Capability: The system is designed to function effectively in adverse weather conditions ranging from -20°C to +55°C, making it suitable for extreme climates.
  4. Versatility: Capable of tracking commercial and surveillance drones, helicopters, and small aircraft, the radar can fit on vehicles and detect movements over complex terrains.
  5. Compact Design: The radar’s compact form factor allows it to be deployed easily and set up quickly in critical areas.
  6. High-Speed Tracking: It can detect drones flying at a speed of 60 meters per second, providing accurate data in real-time.
  7. Multiple Drone Tracking: The system can simultaneously track hundreds of drones in a specific airspace, offering a reliable solution for high-risk areas.

Self-Reliance in Defence Sector:

The development of this radar system represents a significant step towards self-reliance in the defence sector, reducing dependency on imported technologies. The indigenous radar technology developed by Indian defence startups is contributing to strengthening the nation's security framework and establishing a robust drone monitoring network.

Applications and Benefits:

This radar system will play a crucial role in safeguarding critical areas such as airports, military bases, and industrial zones, where unauthorized drone activity can pose serious threats. The radar system’s high-resolution tracking capabilities make it an ideal tool for use in both urban and rural settings. With the capability to detect drones even in difficult-to-access locations, this technology will prove beneficial in maintaining security across India's diverse landscape.

Truth Labs’ founder, Srimannarayana Raj, and project lead Nagireddy emphasized that this technology will be instrumental in strengthening India’s defence mechanisms and addressing emerging drone-related challenges effectively.
