Indore to Become First City Where Every Home Has a Digital Address
India’s cleanest city, Indore, is now set to become the country’s first fully digital city, with every household assigned a unique digital address linked to a QR code.
As part of the ambitious project, each home will have a digital plate installed at the entrance. By scanning the QR code, residents will be able to instantly access a digital page that includes property details and enables them to pay bills for electricity, water, and municipal services.
The initiative was inaugurated by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava in Ward 82, with the first plate affixed at the residence of noted author Satyendra Ketkar.
Officials said Indore has earned the distinction of being the first city connected to the Government of India’s “Digital PIN” platform.
Features of the Digital Address Project:
- A GPS-based unique digital address
- Property tax records and sanitation ratings
- Access to over 20 municipal services
- A platform to file complaints and track grievances
Residents can scan the QR code to make payments and receive important updates. If guests or emergency services need directions, the code can be shared to pinpoint exact locations, assisting the police and ambulance teams in emergencies.
Authorities added that the platform is designed to improve convenience for citizens and transparency in civic administration.
