Noida and NDMC Shine in Swachh Survekshan 2024; Indore Retains Top Spot for Eighth Time
The results of Swachh Survekshan 2024 have placed Noida and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) among the top performers in the country’s cleanliness rankings, while Indore has once again been declared India’s cleanest city—its eighth consecutive win.
Ghaziabad showed notable improvement, gaining 26 points compared to last year. However, it missed entering the top 10 by just one point. The city moved up from 36th to 31st place, with a total score of 9,109 points. In contrast, Noida jumped from 140th to 41st position, and NDMC climbed from 47th to 30th place.
The rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes citizen feedback, service-level progress, and direct observation by survey teams. This year’s survey covered over 90 lakh citizens across 4,500 cities.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who presented the awards, praised the cities for their sustained cleanliness efforts and innovative waste management solutions.
Indore’s continued dominance in the rankings is attributed to its robust waste segregation systems, efficient recycling processes, and strong community participation. Officials credited the city’s consistent focus on public awareness campaigns and strict enforcement of cleanliness regulations.
The government has announced that the Swachh Survekshan 2025 cycle will emphasize waste-to-wealth initiatives, citizen engagement, and digital tracking of waste management systems to further boost urban cleanliness nationwide.
