RSS-Affiliated Union Opposes Two Labour Codes, Threatens Protest

With the Centre set to implement four new labour codes in April, the RSS-affiliated Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has strongly opposed two of these codes, which pertain to industrial relations and occupational safety. The union has also warned of potential street protests if their concerns are not addressed.
Key Concerns Raised by BMS
• The Industrial Relations Code mandates that only unions representing at least 51% of the workforce will be officially recognized.
• BMS argues that no union currently meets this threshold, which could lead to the elimination of many trade unions.
• The implementation of these labour codes had already been delayed for four years, reportedly due to BMS’s opposition.
Union's Stand Against Labour Codes
BMS Secretary Surendra Kumar Pandey emphasized that the union will continue resisting any provisions that could jeopardize workers’ rights and weaken trade unions. He credited BMS’s past efforts for delaying the enforcement of these laws and hinted at further action if their demands are not met.
With the April deadline approaching, the labour movement in India is gearing up for potential confrontations, making it a crucial moment for industrial relations in the country.
